03. The PONTES Approach for a creativity oriented education

Dr. Alda Oliveira´s study (2009-1010) tested the PONTES approach in an experimental group of music teachers, as compared to a control group. It has used quali-quantitative procedures. This study used the DEPEMUS test, which was created to evaluate the individual development and learning related to the PONTES approach. It has used also field observations during the educational and artistic process of education of teachers. Oliveira´s study aimed to test the theoretical basis that was applied during the process of teacher´s continued education, to help them to develop and apply their formal and informal knowledge to create new and challenging activities to connect their purposes and objectives to the different actors involved in the learning process.

Ph.D., MA (MUSIC), MA in Composition, pianist, composer

Supervising Professor at the Post-Graduate Program in Music at the Federal University of Bahia (UFBA, Brazil).
Brazilian researcher, composer and pianist. PhD in Music Education at The University of Texas at Austin, Master degree in Composition and Music Education at Tufts University, Medford, Boston, USA. She won piano and composition prizes in Brazil, and also the title “Housewright Eminent Scholar” by Florida University at Tallahassee, USA. Founder member of Brazilian Association of Music Education (ABEM) and its first President. Former Director of the Music School of the Federal University of Bahia, Brazil. Active member of the International Society for Music Education (ISME) and founder member of the Center of Production, Documention and Studies of Music - SONARE. Production includes books, several articles published in Brazil and abroad, compositions and recordings. Recently Alda is working with a post-graduation group of researchers with the theme PONTES: creation, development, application, observation, collection and analysis of pedagogic articulations in music education (bridges) during the process of creative and continued education of music teachers.


Vilma de Oliveira Silva Fogaça

Vilma de Oliveira Silva Fogaça
Master of Music Education (UFBA), the Music School of the Federal University of Bahia.

Vilma Fogaça (1974, São Paulo, Brasil), has a music education diploma by the Music School of the Federal University of Bahia and has completed the Master course in the same institution, defending a thesis on musical creativity, under the supervision of Dr. Alda Oliveira. She has studied piano since she was a child. Ms. Fogaça has taught children in the Musicalization Project at the Extension Curses Program, introducing the students to the piano, with emphasis on musical creativity. She has participated of the Núcleo de Pesquisa em Performance Musical e Psicologia - NUPISMUS, coordinated by Dr. Diana Santiago. In 2009 has been hired by the Federal University of Bahia to work as a music professor at the Music Education course at the under-graduation level. Vilma Fogaça has published seven research articles in the main Brazilian academic journals.
